This morning, I changed my perspective, instead of looking East from my bedroom window, I got a quick peek out the back window and saw a glimpse of the moon. Fully illuminating a patch of the row of backyards in my neighborhood. The moon illuminated the dark night sky and in the place and time easing between day and night.

I was flushed with images of how much our lives are ruled by the calendar. Daily events, noticed or not , sun, moon, earth sky barely noticed go on and on. consistently changing whether we are aware of those changes.

Normally/ usually back to school happens in September. East coast girl, autumn has always been my favorite season. Changing leaves, sweater weather…. long, long walks, yearning for learning, new clothes and a change and yet a return to the routine.

This year 2024, I went back to school in January. Living in Pure Michigan, as a midwest transplant that is doing rather well. Cold, wintery, online education, amazon and the ability to order almost everything on line ..Zooming … and connecting by wifi and devices that didn’t even exist a while back pre COVID and the holy hibernation…means you rarely leave the house. Sometimes I check the weather by looking at my phone. Just as easily I could step outside, but that is an extra step that I don't always take.

In any case I have been mesmerized by watching the sky, watching things and people grow, calendars, journals, cycles, seasons, history and the age old questions: “When have I been here before?” What am I here to learn? It’s…
