Dear Adebayo, I can have both... and not question your morality as an initial form of attack.... I can listen to both sides and sit still and still cry and feel sad and wonder AND have sympathy and empathy for folks blown to bits on the bottom of the ocean that paid a lot of money for that experience... Wondering out loud .. out loud or even in print why this was such a compelling story and why it grabs our attention when other "boat" stories and drownings at sea may not grab our attention but are buried in columns of natural disasters and refugees set afloat searching for freedom. What are we willing to risk for a better life? a better high? What is the cost? This is way beyond simplistic notions of white/ wealth privilege? What I discussed over coffee this morning as I browsed reports was wonder about the folks who searched for them.. coast guard and naval officers knowing they were likely dead for days now and not to be found and the politics of reporting with assurance that all that could be done was... Who are these people following orders without question or with questions and still following orders and searching...Who was that black girl in the background .. coast guard officer standing sentinel watch? Mother's prayers for son lost at sea with his father... my heart aches with angst.... Bonding with dad at another destination wouldn't carry such risks (maybe)???The financial and emotional costs are staggering but the wreckage of those left behind and nightmares of guilt and shame and the cost of not even taking a pause to wonder out loud about all of this.... are we at greater human risk... (mammals and fish of the sea.. wondering...You are courageous for setting the table so we can converse and commune. Be kind and compassionate and angry, and curious....and we will do better given the chance.
