Did you ever wonder

What happen in Wyoming

first day

Of winter 1866

Woke

Solstice morning

And even the calendar

Could not have forewarned me about

Something I didn’t know

About

what happened is something

if you were there

you

would not be able to forget

be it

bozeman

Or fetterman

Or sioux,

or cheyenne

or arapahoe

in the Fort Laramie of 1851

or in Colorado

or Sand Creek in 1864

you could only remember

what I did not know

black kettle

Chivington

promises to keep

dreams dashed

visons of earth

sky and wind and fresh blood

what can I learn of

war and peace and revenge

and pain

and wonder

in the still dark

night

it happened to you

I listened

And now I know

And now a bit of me

The part that was me

That was there can understand

Each day more light

more love revealed
