Happy Birthday HONEST Abe!

Abraham Lincoln the 16th President of the United States was actually born this day back in 1809.

If we were to put all the candles on his cake for every year, we would need 216 candles to light that confection up.

I am a person that likes to celebrate on the appropriate day if at all possible and though we have designated President’s Day for shopping and sharing with the first president George Washington. I do believe that Abe deserves honorable mention today for this is the day his mother labored and though he was murdered, his life and labor was certainly not in vain.

As I child, I associated him with two important things. log cabins (Lincoln Logs )and his nickname of honest Abe. Today with my archival hat on,I wanted to see where those memories came from and if it was accurate. So I did a little searching and checked back for remenents of what he might have said way back in the day.

While at one time I think we memorized all of the Presidents, and you got a prize for that, I’d like to think that one of the most Presidential qualities I admired as child and also now as an ELDER is honesty.

He was a lawyer, and a politician who had a great deal of personal angst about seeking compromise for the public good. This couldnt have been…
