I dyed an Easter Egg on Palm Sunday …
I had a wonderful brunch yesterday with a dear long time friend.
An activity planned by our grown daughters just for us to celebrate and gently pass the hours on a sunny Spring Day; it was church in so many ways.
As I may be prone to melancholy at times with any change in plans or even the potential of perceived disappointments, I was struck with the power of making new memories and savoring the moment. Going with the flow as it were.
Spontaneous praise and worship and transformation and recollections and laughing and crying and silliness and such good food.
if there was a lot of planning involved or even an agenda..
i was so unaware.
Lots of crucial conversations bits and pieces. I guess there was a reason that title was already in my kindle line up. …. fortunately i had not read the book just yet .. i just joined in by showing up and following directions.
with all the bravery it took to be fully present and to just put the batteries in my hearing aid and listen closely even when I still had the power to be surprised and had no words. in waiting.
The space of the paid for home was so beautifully decorated . Table set .. incense burning. mimosa flowing and my own new cocktail of frozen grapes , bits of mango floating in my orange juice .
We watched the birds at the feeder. The seeds sprouting. in trays getting ready for the outside garden .. mKing plans for aging in place. when we might no longer climb the stairs
the old shed finally torn down broken pieces in the dumpster only blocking the alley a little bit.
dreams of the new she shed we shed garage to come may be as soon as summers end. permits in place.
All this we could see without even leaving the table. …tears flow spontaneously and freely. no mascara was harmed in the process. we wore none ..
The menu was fabulous .. service was impeccable. Six hours passed quickly …

steamed spiced shrimp
salmon cakes new style with roasted red peppers baked with a bit of onion bagel binder holding it together. lightly dusted with flax seed for crunch
then there was the spinach quiche
sweet potato pie
roasted breakfast potatoes with garlic and butter and onions
the most amazing baked savory salty sweet brie brioche thing with apples and cranberries warm and oozy
coffee with heavy whipped cream
we covered a lot of ground without ever leaving the communion table. Not once did I have to get up forty days like forty years pass quickly…
redemption renaissance women’s ways. of knowing these things and each other. and such such good food.
and then we made art from laid eggs color and promise of all things new …
i got to take my bright magenta pink egg home with me as a souvenir of my day … it was such a good way to start the week.
