Thirsty!
When you’ve been
dried out
in the desert
for a mighty
long long long time
out in the wilderness
even with an unexpected flash flood of rain
the hardened soil beneath
quite frankly
does not get wet
it is a freak of nature
sealed off
a thirst unable to be quenched
runoff occurs
soil is hard
impermeable
unaccustomed
unfamiliar
landscape
with the quality
characteristics
associated most kindly with moisture
lick your lips
the taste is bitter
chapped
red colored lips glossy
might make it look worst
the earth is dry
parched
every seed spread
seemingly wasted
raisins in the sun
dreams deferred
All the rains can pour down
today flood the space
manna distributed evenly
faithfully
doesn’t even look like bread anymore
like something you could
possibly eat
that would nourish you
like nothing you ever seen
the possibility for even a drop of water
to soak through to the earth
wet your lips
take it in small sips
pores opening
You my dear have a cellular memory of love
